It’s a good time to be a wrestling fan; WWE has just begun a new era on Netflix (and the biggest event of the year for wrestling, Wrestlemania, has just aired on the streaming service live, for the first time), a viable and popular alternative to its dominance exists in AEW, and numerous indie promotions, along with wrestlers not signed to the big two (such as Matt Cardona), also thriving.

Wrestling is a great subject for tabletop games, and also feels like a particularly strong theme for trading card games, but has been somewhat underrepresented. However, there’s a new kid on the block (or a new grappler in the squared circle), with Wrestling vs the World now crowdfunding via Kickstarter.

Taking a My Hero Academia-meets-WWE approach, Wrestling vs the World imagines a world in which wrestling is no longer simply an impressive and theatrical spectacle, but real, and powered by “Flow”. Numerous factions battle it out to assert dominance, and each player uses their deck to play a stable of wrestlers, chaining together moves to win each bout.

With comic book style art (it’s no surprise to learn that there’s also a comic book tie-in which sets the scene for the game and its lore), straightforward gameplay and 128 cards in the initial set to collect, Wrestling vs the World looks like a very intriguing proposition at this stage. The Kickstarter campaign is loaded with exclusives and stretch goals to be unlocked, so if the subject matter and gameplay appeals to you, it’s well worth pledging for. You can check out how to play Wrestling vs the World in the video below:

Numerous tiers are available, with the two pre-constructed starter decks priced at just $25 for the pair, and a box of 24 booster packs (plus a promo card) at $95.
