Though Disney Lorcana is still a relatively new kid on the block when it comes to Trading Card Games (or TCGs), the game’s seventh set, Archazia’s Island, has already been released. Now set eight, Reign of Jafar, is also on the way. So what do we know about Reign of Jafar right now? Let’s find out!

ToggleWhat Is the Story of Reign of Jafar?

The clues for Jafar’s rise were teased on cards as far back as Lorcana’s fourth set, Ursula’s Return. In that set, evil Sea Witch Ursula had gained control of the Hexwell Crown, which gave her enough power to try and take over Lorcana’s world. However, thanks to the Illumineer’s Quest: Deep Trouble set, players could team up to take on Ursula, splitting the Hexwell Crown in two if they were successful in defeating her.
As you can see from the above cards, we go from Ursula having the Hexwell Crown, to there being a Half Hexwell Crown card if the players were victorious. The Half Hexwell Crown could be found in the aforementioned Deep Trouble set, as well as in the subsequent Shimmering Skies set.

This laid the groundwork for Jafar to discover the Crown for himself. As you can see from the card above, from the Azurite Sea set, it didn’t take long for him to get his hands on half of the Hexwell Crown, and realise that he’d be in a position to take over Lorcana himself if he found the other half.

Finally, the Jafar, Newly Crowned card (shown above in both its standard and Enchanted Rare variants) from the Archazia’s Island set show the villain wearing both halves of the Hexwell Crown, which leads us into the Reign of Jafar!
What Products Will Be Released as Part of the Reign of Jafar Set?

The Reign of Jafar product range will include playmats, sleeves, a bundle (in the form of the now-familiar Illumineer’s Trove packs) and, of course, booster packs too.

Two pre-constructed starter decks will also be available. As shown above, these will be the Tiana/Bruno, Amber/Amethyst deck and the Mulan/Stitch, Ruby/Steel deck. Beyond the images on the packaging, we’ve yet to see the actual cards, so we don’t have any insight as to how they’ll affect the meta, which is currently dominated by Sapphire and Steel.

Finally, a new Illumineer’s Quest set, Palace Heist, will allow players to take on Jafar directly, just as the Deep Trouble set gave players the chance to challenge and defeat Ursula when she had the Hexwell Crown.
When Will Reign of Jafar Be Released?

The pre-release for Reign of Jafar will take place from May 30th, 2025, and you can find your closest participating store for these events here. The full release of the Reign of Jafar set is June 6th, 2025.
